By using Layman's Terms, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. What Layman's Terms does

Layman's Terms uses AI to summarize legal documents, Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policies, subscription agreements, and similar documents in plain English.

3. Not legal advice

Layman's Terms is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. The summaries, risk scores, red flags, and recommendations are for informational purposes only. You should consult a qualified attorney for legal advice about your specific situation.

4. No attorney-client relationship

Using Layman's Terms does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Layman's Terms, its owners, operators, employees, contractors, partners, or affiliates. Communications with Layman's Terms are not privileged legal communications.

5. AI limitations

AI-generated summaries, risk scores, red flags, recommendations, and explanations may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, misleading, or may miss important details. Layman's Terms does not guarantee that any analysis is correct, complete, current, or suitable for your specific situation. You are responsible for reviewing the original document before signing, agreeing, subscribing, or making decisions.

6. User responsibilities

You agree not to:

• Use Layman's Terms for unlawful purposes.
• Submit content you do not have the right to process.
• Upload sensitive information unless you accept the risk.
• Attempt to reverse engineer, abuse, overload, or attack the service.
• Use the service to violate another person's privacy or rights.

7. Accounts and subscriptions

Layman's Terms may offer free and paid plans. Paid features, limits, pricing, billing terms, renewal terms, and cancellation rules may vary and will be shown during checkout, inside the product, or on the pricing page. By purchasing a paid plan, you authorize the payment processor to charge the payment method you provide according to the plan you select.

8. Free and paid features

Free users may receive access to basic scans or limited summaries. Paid users may receive deeper analysis, expanded summaries, additional risk explanations, saved history, document uploads, or other advanced features as they become available.

9. Refunds

Refund rules may depend on the payment platform used. Unless otherwise required by law, subscription payments may be non-refundable once a billing period begins.

10. Intellectual property

Layman's Terms, including its branding, design, interface, and original product features, belongs to Layman's Terms or its owner. You may not copy, resell, or misuse the product.

11. Submitted content

You retain rights to the text and documents you submit. By submitting text, uploading files, or asking Layman's Terms to analyze website content through the browser extension, you give Layman's Terms permission to process that content only as needed to provide, secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service.

12. Third-party services

Layman's Terms relies on third-party service providers to operate the platform. These providers may support authentication, database storage, AI processing, analytics, payment processing, hosting, error monitoring, and other product operations. These services may be subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

Examples of third-party services we may use include:

• Clerk for authentication and account management.
• Supabase for database storage and saved analysis history.
• OpenAI for AI-generated summaries and document analysis.
• Stripe for payment processing and subscription billing.
• PostHog for product analytics and event tracking.
• Microsoft Clarity for session recordings, heatmaps, and usability insights.
• Vercel or similar hosting providers for application hosting and deployment.

13. Browser extension

The Layman's Terms browser extension is designed to analyze visible page text only when you choose to run a scan or Deep Dive. The extension is not intended to continuously monitor your browsing activity, collect unrelated website content, or analyze pages without user action.

14. Service availability and changes

We may modify, suspend, discontinue, restrict, or update any feature of Layman's Terms at any time without notice. We are not obligated to maintain any specific feature, integration, analysis type, browser extension capability, pricing plan, or subscription tier.

15. No warranties

Layman's Terms is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee that the service will be error-free, uninterrupted, fully accurate, or suitable for every legal situation.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Layman's Terms will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or other damages resulting from your use of, inability to use, or reliance on the service, including AI summaries, risk scores, red flags, recommendations, browser extension outputs, saved analyses, or other product outputs.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the product evolves. If we make major changes, we will update the date above and may provide additional notice.
